On Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, February 14th, the International Buddhist Progress Society (IBPS) invites you to join the celebration of one of South Florida’s most unique and inspiring cultural events - The IBPS 2010 Chinese New Year Festival!
The event will be held at the IBPS Fo Guang Shan Temple, 9341 NW 57th Street, Tamarac, FL 33351. All events are free and open to the public. The year 2010, in the Chinese lunar calendar is The Year Of The Tiger. Filled with courage, strength and agility, symbolized by the Tiger, expect this year to be one full of accomplishment, surprise and strong action. The two-day celebration will kick-off on Saturday, at 10 am, with a charity exhibition featuring the art of Korean poet and painter Venerable Won Sung and the sale of exquisite Orchids prepared and designed by South Florida-based Venerable Miao Hua. The festivities will turn culinary at 6:00 pm with the start of the Chinese New Year’s Eve, Welcoming Dinner, which is considered one of the most important and joyful meals of the year, to Chinese families. Traditionally, elders give children, hong bao, (red-bags), filled with lucky money to bless the New Year at this dinner...so, expect gifts for good luck! Following the Welcoming Dinner, at 11 pm, participants will be invited to experience even more beautiful, cultural delights by taking part in the New Year’s First Incense Burning ceremony. On Sunday, starting at 10:30 am, events will begin with the beautiful One Thousand Buddha Dharma Service, followed by a deliciously prepared vegetarian lunch. At 2 pm, things get noisy with the start of the New Year Festival’s Cultural Performances, which include the legendary Lion Dance performed by local professional Kung Fu studio, The Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Association. Defiantly a must see! During the two day festival, South Floridians are welcomed to come and brighten the outlook for 2010 by lighting candles. The 2010 New Year’s festival will bring together joyful art, fabulous food, mythic dancing, fireworks and great music...all to help you usher in blessings for 2010.
